Why I Love U So Much——A Graduate's Thnaks Letter to JHUN

Why I Love U So Much, Wuhan!

                    By Gil Diaz Carlos (Spain)

Hello everyone, my name is Carlos and I am Spanish. In the summer of 2010, one of my best friends organized a trip to China for table tennis training for 3 weeks. My friend is Chinese born in Wuhan. When we knew we were going to the city named Wuhan, I have to admit that none of the six people we knew where we were go, but after the travel we all loved.

I liked especially Wuhan, so in the summer of 2011 I decided to go there with my friend again. It was another 3 weeks, but this time very little train and met again the city. One summer I was fortunate to meet a wonderful woman, which I fell in love right away. We could only see each other a few times and unfortunately I had to return to Spain.

Upon returning to Spain I decided to start studying Chinese. At first I found it was very difficult, but the most important is not to give up and be consistent. I applied a class in Chinese academy in Barcelona and every day I liked more, but in Spain there are not many places to practice and felt I could not improve very fast. So I decided to apply stop my Job and go to China to study Chinese. This would allow me to improve my Chinese, and especially being with my girlfriend.

The July 19, 2012 began my adventure in Wuhan. The first few days were hard. Wuhan Summer is very hot and I was tired all day. Also the food was very spicy, the first few times I could not keep my tears jump out to eat! Also in the street, you need use 4 eyes feel safe, in 1 minute can pass through your hand, a motorcycle, a bike, a car, a truck ... and when you cross the road, it was super dangerous! Never mind that the pedestrian signal is green or red, you should always be very careful.

In September started college, I decided to study in Jianghan University. A university is not now among the best known of Wuhan but I'm sure in a few years it will be not only famous in Wuhan. University is surrounded by the triangle lake, with lots of greenery around, and modern buildings. All teachers and staff I met there were lovely and always willing to help.

The first few days class were really tough for me, because the level of my group was very high, my four Korean classmates already had a few years studying Chinese. In the books there was not appear any pinyin, and I did not understand much! So I begin to write new words on paper every day and try to use them. Step by Step, I began to learn much more Hanzi and enjoyed a lot in class. Also I like a lot Spoken Chinese, no matter good or not, the most important is to practice Chinese and gradually improve my Chinese. So I made many friends in college, not only students but also many teachers. With them almost every day I would train table tennis, and even went to play some competition with people of Wuhan, like Kunfu competition on June.

The winter is very cold in Wuhan. In those days I loved to eat hot pot and spicy food, if you read that right! I was already used to eating spicy food! We had two months of vacation to celebrate the Chinese New Year, and I live these important dates with my girlfriend and her family. They treat me very well throughout my stay in China, making me feel at home.

At the first I was only going to study Chinese half year, but I enjoyed the experience so much that I decided to extend another half year. My girlfriend was very happy, but my boss in Spain not so much haha!

The second half year was also very good, going very fast in class and I felt the same level as my classmates. I was able to pass the HSK level 4, before going to China seemed impossible!

Many people when they want to go to China to study only think of going to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou .... Now there are people who ask me , and I have no doubt to tell them choose Wuhan:

- Her people : Hospitable and helpful.

- Her food : Baozi, Jiao Zi, Dou Pi, Re Gan Mian, Duck Neck, I am amazed at the variety of food that I could try this year in  Wuhan and I have to admit that everything I like.

-Her tourist sites: Yellow Crane Tower, Dong Hu , River Bank, Yangtze River...

-Her shopping centers: Jianghan lu, World Trade Plaza, Wuhan Plaza, Wanda, Optical Valley Plaza.....

-Her universities: Wuhan University, Huazhong University, Hubei University..... But my favorite is definitely Jianghan University!

Anyway, my experience in Wuhan has been very good and I will come back, because I left many friends there. Wait me, Wuhan!
